Install the Host

The host is the part of RealFrame that runs on the computer you want to control from somewhere else. Once it is installed and signed in, you can connect to that machine from any of your client devices. Hosts run on Windows and Linux.

Before you start

You need:

• A RealFrame account. If you do not have one yet, create it during the steps below.
• The computer you want to reach, powered on and connected to the internet.
• Permission to install software on that computer.

You do not need a VPN, a static IP address, or any router or firewall changes. RealFrame handles the connection for you.

Step 1: Download the host

1. Open a web browser on the computer you want to reach.
2. Go to the RealFrame downloads page.
3. Choose the build that matches the operating system: Windows or Linux.
4. Save the installer to that machine.

Step 2: Run the installer

1. Open the file you just downloaded.
2. Follow the prompts to install. On Windows you may see a standard permission prompt; approve it so the host can install.
3. When the installer finishes, the host launches automatically.

Step 3: Sign in

1. In the host window, sign in with your RealFrame account.
2. If you do not have an account yet, choose Create account and follow the steps, then come back and sign in.

After you sign in, the host registers this computer under your account so your other devices can find it.

Step 4: Confirm the host is online

You will see a status indicator showing the host is online and ready to accept connections. Give the machine a clear name (for example, "office-pc" or "studio-linux") so it is easy to recognize from your other devices.

Keep the host reachable

For the host to accept connections, the computer needs to be:

• Powered on and not asleep.
• Connected to the internet.
• Running the host, which starts automatically after install and after a reboot.

If you want to reach the machine at any time, set its power settings so it does not go to sleep while idle.
